English

Welcome to Akateeminen Helsinki to follow the conversation between internationally award-winning author Lọlá Ákínmádé Åkerström and Katja Presnel, founder of the Crush Movement event.

Åkerström has written two books: Everything is Not Enough (2023) and In Every Mirror She’s Black (2021). Both books are about lives that we don’t hear about often enough. Åkerström lives in Stockholm, Sweden, where the books are set.

Despite the international success of the books, they have not been published in Sweden.

Nigerian-American writer Lọlá Ákínmádé Åkerström has lived on three continents — Africa, North America and now in Europe, Sweden. She is interested in the complexities and nuances of culture and how it manifests in human relationships.

Based in Sweden, Lọlá is an internationally bestselling and award-winning visual storyteller, speaker and photographer. Her work has been published in National Geographic, BBC, CNN, The Guardian, Sunday Times Travel, The Telegraph, New York Times, Travel + Leisure magazine and Lonely Planet.

You can also find the event on Facebook (in Finnish).
